Today we introduce you Stefano Mino from AboutDataGovernance, the Data Lineage Company.

Tell us a little about your professional career

I work as sales director and & Co-Founder of AboutDataGovernance. In my professional career I have developed some important special projects up to 1995 such as the first microchip credit card in Italy. I then moved to sales dept. and was Alliance Manager at Ascential. Following the acquisition of the latter by IBM, I held the role of Sales Manager for Italy for Information Integration & MDM solutions. I was then promoted, thanks to the successes achieved, to European Sales Manager for the same area at IBM, contributing to the implementation of numerous Governance projects on a Customer portfolio of over 1000 Customers.

What are your challenges, what do you like to do with the metadata?

AboutDataGovernance’s efforts are directed at unleashing the power of Company’s metadata with the most effective and comprehensive Reversal Data Lineage solution available on the market – iGovernance Suite – just awarded with the European Enterprise Awards 2020 as “Best Reversal Data Lineage Solution”.

With our Reversal Data Lineage solution, we aim at recovering the knowledge of customer’s physical IT processes to support the Company’s digital, data-driven strategy and ensure the highest quality & governance for the organization’s data. 

Each company has enormous potential – its own metadata – to improve inefficiencies, productivity and reduce operating costs. However, this potential is often not used at all. If, on the other hand, companies learn to use their metadata correctly, they could be able to undertake digital transformation initiatives in a less risky, more efficient, and less expensive way.

Do you think that companies have the right culture to manage data in a different way?

We believe that changes in general never happen quickly. Sometimes it takes entire computer generations to embark on a cycle of change – which are much faster than human generations. The pandemic seems to have given a strong acceleration to the process of change, so much so that in such a short time the first strong signs are already being seen.

What are the most important challenges for CIO, CDO, CDO, CTO in 2021?

Digital transformation is certainly still the most important issue also for this 2021 for any company, regardless of the sector to which it belongs and the size of the company. 

Looking at what CIO, CDO and CTO have in common – rather than analyse the challenges of each of them – we have seen that all of them have the common goal of “doing more with less”. That is, they have all received budget cuts, and everyone is asked to achieve important goals. This means that each CIO, CDO and CTO must introduce significant improvements in terms of efficiency, cost reduction, ability to adapt to change and optimization of resources.

The argument of your round table has many approaches and a long way to go, what do you expect from the members present in this panel that you will have to moderate/partecipate?

I expect the round table to be a place where everyone not only shares the problems encountered, but illustrates how these problems have been concretely solved, regardless of methodologies, approaches etc. An extremely concrete session that leaves each of the participants with a realistic view of the solutions that other colleagues have adopted with respect to similar situations.

You’ve supported the event from the beginning. Why did you do that?

Sharing is an action that brings added value to both those who receive the sharing and those who share it. From the very beginning, we saw great potential in DMS in terms of re-sharing experiences, and this is what immediately led us to join the DMS project. As proof of this we can say that we have already obtained some tangible benefits, thanks to the collaboration relationship with DMS.
