Tell us a little about your professional career
I started my professional career in the world of multimedia technology, at the birth of a world full of new possibilities based on graphics, video and interactivity. In 2002 I finished an executive MBA at IE and this circumstance produced a complete change in my professional career. The Santander Group invited me to be part of its team of professionals, participating in the definition and implementation of the Financial MIS (management information systems) at a global level. And here my passion for data was born…Coinciding with the publication BCBS-239, I became responsible from the CIO area for the implementation of the RDA / RRF project in Santander Brazil. Since early 2019 I have been responsible for the data governance area in the Global CTO team.
What are your challenges, what do you like to do with the data?
Something very simple and very complicated at the same time: define an architecture capable of answering the following question: what data is used by whom and for what.
Do you think that companies have the right culture to manage data in a different way?
Some companies are already on the right path to advanced data governance models, expanding governance to all data in the ecosystem, proactively governing and automating governance processes, but most remain in the RDA/RRF data governance stage, with a reactive governance and a lot of governance manual processes.
What are the most important challenges for CIO, CDO, CDO, CTO in 2021?
Regarding Data Governance, due to the difficult economic situation, the main challenge is getting funding for IT programs to support governance transformational projects.
What are you going to talk about in your speech at the Data Management Summit?
During my speech I will present the new paradigm of Data Governance that we are implementing in the Santander Group, what we call Data Marketplace.
You’ve supported the event from the beginning. Why did you do that?
I find it important, as a professional in this arena in a huge multinational organisation, to support initiatives that energizes the world of Data Management, specifically those with awareness in the Data Governance perspective as the organization of the Data Management Summit has demonstrated.
