Tell us a little about your professional career
Since I was a child I’ve been fascinated by computers and programming languages. In my years of studies at Politecnico di Milano I choose mechanical engineer with a specialization in robotics since I think a robot is the natural connection between the physical reality and the digital world – the first concept of a digital twin.
I’ve spend several years working in consulting firms that gave me exposure to several different realities, from the Italian SMEs that are brilliant when it comes to agility, product development, innovation and networking, up to the giant and globalised enterprises like DHL where I’ve been covering roles in several different regions and business functions, delivering programs of enterprise level and in the efficient management of operational teams, driving innovation and standardisation, bringing together business and IT.
Third party logistics providers are generating TB of data per day and ideally positioned to provide competitive advantage through data & analytics. In this context I had the unique opportunity to find myself at the centre of it and be part of the foundation of a Global Information Center of Excellence.
Finally, last year, I joined Radisson in a very exciting moment where several important business changes are giving us the unique opportunity to redesign our business processes, business applications and data ecosystem. This will be the tipping point for a profound digital transformation.
What are your challenges, what do you like to do with the data?
At Radisson Data Office we focus in developing the necessary people, technology, and governance along with the evolution of analytics in our organization. This per se is an important challenge that requires full business alignment.
When looking at the value that data can generate, there are several dimensions however two of them are very important for Radisson: the operational dimension and the customer dimension.
- Operational: we want to use our data to improve our core processes by dimensions such as speed, cost, quality. We want to help our operations to take better decisions and making a more accurate planning.
- Customer: internal and external data can be combined to expand the customer digital experience, innovating, and connecting our core products and providing new innovative solutions that goes beyond our current portfolio.
The ideas presented by the business are channelled through our innovation program prioritized and implemented starting with a proof of concept and moved towards productization.
Do you think that companies have the right culture to manage data in a different way?
Data and Digital transformation are a team effort in any organization! Data & Analytics leaders are coming from any part of the business and data is collected and analysed for specific objectives set by the business leaders. But as in any transformation or change, there will always be some resistance. Companies that can overcome those resistances, create a cohesive network of talents capable of managing information and with business knowledge acumen, have the right receipt to perform this transformation faster and more effective than the others.
What are the most important challenges for CIO, CDO, CTO in 2021?
CIO, CDO, CTO of every organization are asked to renovate the core, building bimodal IT capability and creating powerful digital leadership in order to accelerate the transformation and generate a digital revenue faster.
The argument of your round table has many approaches and a long way to go, what do you expect from the members present in this panel that you will have to participate?
In every conversation the biggest value is to exchange experiences. My expectation is to share my experience with leaders of different organizations and sectors enriching our way of thinking and complementing our strategies.
You’ve supported the event from the beginning. Why did you do that?
We are leaving the era of data where everything, even the currencies are becoming data. But an abundance of information is valuable only if it can be verified, analyzed and presented on a human scale. As leaders in the information management our role is to come together to create those capabilities and the Data Management Summit is instrumental environment to drive this process.
