Fernando Gualo will be at Data Management Summit International Edition 2021

We unveil day after day all those professionals who will participate with their presence within one of the most important event of Data Management. For the first time, a forum tries to focus on data management in its entirety, from governance, through security, the cloud, automatic learning, data virtualization and much more. Today we introduce you Fernando Gualo from DQTeam.

Tell us a little about your professional career

I am a Computer Science Engineer and PhD in Advanced Information Technology from the University of Castilla-La Mancha working on my PhD dissertation on Data Management and Data Governance. Since 2017 I am CEO of DQTeam, a consulting firm specialized in the creation and implementation of Data Governance programmes as well as the evaluation and improvement of Data Quality in different organizations. We have helped different organizations in the definition of data strategies as well as the implementation of Data Governance programs to obtain maximum value by ensuring data quality and preparing organizations for the ISO 25012 data quality certification of their data repositories. I am also co-author of the Data Quality book and the Alarcos Data Improvement Model, a framework for Data Management, Data Governance and Data Quality maturity.

What are your challenges, what do you like to do with the data?

My main challenge in the data world is to help organizations to have quality data that is useful in different environments or paradigms such as BI, AI or ML, i.e. optimal for competitive advantage.

Do you think that companies have the right culture to manage data in a different way?

I believe that in recent years many organizations have invested time and effort in carrying out various transformations within their organizations with the aim of managing more efficiently and obtaining the greatest possible knowledge from the data. Even so, the reluctance to change in some of them is great, and an effort of dissemination, institutionalization or change management is required to continue their growth. Similarly, we believe that there is still a long way to go in different types of organizations such as small and medium-sized enterprises, which without as many resources as large companies could grow much more with data than they do; as well as public administrations where data has always been key to their performance and for some time now have been carrying out different initiatives and good practices in data quality, data integration, etc. To help all these organizations in DQTeam we have created and published for free the MAMD model, a framework that brings together the different good practices of management, quality management and data governance and that allows to establish data governance programmes ad hoc to the needs of the organization.

What are the most important challenges for CIO, CDO, CDO, CTO in 2023?

  • Strengthen the three areas that lead their collaboration and promote data exchange spaces, not only between organizations but also with public administrations, in order to enhance and enrich the use of data while complying with the minimum requirements in terms of data quality and security.
  • Align business strategies with data strategies so that data truly becomes the central strategic ally and the organization’s evolution towards a data-driven company is effective.
  • Continue to evangelize and institutionalize the importance of data management and data quality to the various stakeholders within the organization to reduce risks and maximize benefits.

The argument of your round table has many approaches and a long way to go. What do you expect from the members present in this panel that you will have to partecipate?

The main argument for this roundtable is the importance of Data Quality in Data Strategies, as well as the alignment between Data Strategies and Organizational Strategy.

You’ve supported the event from the beginning. Why did you do that?

I am absolutely convinced that there is strength in numbers, and the perfect example is this forum in which different professionals make our knowledge and perspectives available to everyone with the aim of learning from each other, debating and aligning efforts to give data governance strategies and programmes the importance they deserve.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you for inviting me to this great event where we are given the opportunity to interact with data specialists, learn about different approaches and above all learn from each other.
